Botsford, CT - Fast action by an alert homeowner and an early warning from family pets prevented an electrical fire from spreading through a private residence during the overnight hours.

Emergency units from Botsford Fire Rescue and Newtown Hook & Ladder were dispatched to the private home in the early morning hours of Monday, September 28, 2026, after receiving reports of an active electrical fire inside the residence. The homeowner had been awoken when their dogs began signaling an issue, discovering the electrical fire before it could gain a foothold.

Equipped with household fire suppression tools, the resident took swift action and successfully knocked down the flames prior to the arrival of emergency crews.

Responding firefighters conducted a thorough inspection of the walls and surrounding framework, confirming that the fire had not extended into the structural voids of the house.

Crews isolated the main electrical power to ensure scene safety throughout the Fairfield County property and requested utility crews from Eversource to respond, inspect the service connection, and make necessary repairs.
