Parkesburg, PA - On September 27th, 2025, multiple fire companies responded to a large barn fire in the 3000 block of Doe Run Church Road in East Fallowfield Township. The Modena Fire Company, along with several mutual aid departments, was dispatched after reports of a barn engulfed in flames with horses trapped inside.

Responding units from Modena Fire Company — including Engine, Tanker, Rescue, Tac, and Utility 8 — were advised of the situation by the Chester County 911 Center while en route. Upon arrival, Ambulance 37 confirmed the working fire, and Deputy 37 (Reason) requested a “Working Fire Dispatch” along with a First Alarm Tanker Task Force. Assistant 37 (Bryant) assumed command under the incident name “Doe Run Church Command.”

As fire conditions intensified, Battalion 41 (Lentz) arrived on Ladder 41 and was assigned to operations. Given the advanced stage of the fire prior to the arrival of crews, command determined that a defensive strategy using master stream operations from the exterior would be necessary. A collapse zone was also established for firefighter safety.

Assistant 37 (Bryant) requested that a fill site be established at a hydrant near the Chester County Public Safety Training Center to support tanker operations. This task was handled by Kennett Fire Company Engine 24, Chief 8 (Marks), and Deputy 35 (Ziegler). Due to the long distance between the fire and the fill site, and the high water demand of master stream operations, a Second Alarm Tanker Task Force was requested to ensure an adequate water supply.

In total, more than 57,000 gallons of water were used to bring the fire under control. The blaze was officially declared under control at 11:41 p.m., with crews conducting extensive overhaul operations. At that time, command confirmed that 11 horses had been accounted for.

All Keystone Valley Fire Department units cleared the scene at approximately 3:18 a.m.
