TOWN OF DEERPARK – Huguenot Fire Company responded to what became a second alarm call in their district due to the size, age, and historic nature of the structure. Located at 85 Neversink Drive, Town of Deerpark, multiple companies assisted on scene or on standby for the two-story blaze early morning, September 11. The fire extended into both stories of the home and the attic, which was under renovation and unoccupied at the time.

The circa 1851 former farmhouse is located near the entrance to The Lynx at River Bend Golf Club, known previously as the Port Jervis Country Club for nearly a century. The house is part of a series of historic structures situated on the former farm’s expansive acres of land. At one time a veterinary hospital was also operated by the late Dr. Frank Simpson on the land, and Dr. Simpson lived in the home.

Huguenot Fire Company Chief T. J. Kalin said the call came in as an automatic alarm. The chief credited all involved fire units for a great job in helping to contain and extinguish the blaze. Departments assisting were Huguenot, Cuddebackville, Greenville, Westfall, Sparrowbush, Matamoras, Westbrookville, Port Jervis, Otisville, Montague, and Howells.
