Margate City, N.J. — September 26 — Margate City firefighters responded to a working structure fire at 214 North Granville Avenue at 3:25 p.m. They successfully brought the fire under control with help from neighboring departments. No injuries were reported, but the house suffered significant damage.

Off-duty Atlantic City Fire Captain Tim Schwegman called the fire in using a radio. Upon arrival, Margate City Fire Department units confirmed the working fire and requested assistance from Longport and Ventnor City departments.

Engine 22 stretched an attack line to the rear entrance, while another line was advanced through the front of the residence.

Quint 24 helped with hose advancement and conducted a primary search, which found no people inside. Ventnor City Engine 12 set up a secondary water supply, while crews connected a primary supply line from a nearby hydrant.

Fire officials called for additional Margate personnel and asked for a Northfield engine to cover Station 1. Utility crews were dispatched after an electrical surge created an extra hazard near the scene. Police officers evacuated nearby homes and handled traffic around the area.

Firefighters checked for any fire extension and completed overhaul operations. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the department’s fire investigator. The units cleared the scene at 5:26 p.m. and handed the residence back to its owner. The response highlighted the importance of coordinated mutual aid and maintaining coverage while working at a fire scene.
