Tyrone, PA - On 10 October 2025, Department 31 was dispatched to assist Station 36 in response to a vehicle crash involving a fuel tanker rollover on South Eagle Valley Road. Captain Chronister (Station 36) responded directly to the scene and confirmed the initial report: a fuel truck carrying heating oil had overturned, with the driver still inside the vehicle.
Rescue, Engine, and Squad 33, along with Utility 34 from the Borough, responded to assist. Upon arrival, crews began fluid control operations to manage the leaking fuel, using absorbent materials and absorbent socks to contain the spill while efforts were made to stop the active leaks. Squad 22 from Bellwood also responded to assist with traffic control but was later released and returned to its district.
Bystanders at the scene were able to help the driver safely exit the truck before emergency personnel arrived. A full hazmat response from the Altoona City Fire Department was requested to provide monitoring and additional support throughout the incident. Crews remained on scene for several hours, maintaining traffic control while the roadway was closed to allow for vehicle recovery and cleanup operations.
