Freewood Acres Fire Company Mourns the Passing of Past Chief Clem Surak

September 22, 2025 — The Freewood Acres Fire Company is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Life Member and Past Chief Clem Surak, a dedicated public servant whose decades of commitment to the department and community left a lasting legacy.

Chief Surak was remembered for his leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to serving others. His efforts throughout the years helped strengthen the department and inspired generations of firefighters who followed in his footsteps.


“Your involvement, dedication, and friendship will be missed, but not forgotten,” the department shared. “For your selfless civil duties to our community and its people throughout your lifetime — we salute you.”


The Freewood Acres Fire Company extended heartfelt condolences to the Surak family and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.


“Rest easy, Chief — we will take it from here.”
