Bellwood, PA - In the early morning of 10 October 2025 at 7:15 a.m., the Excelsior Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Tuckahoe Road and Bells Gap Access Trail for a reported motor vehicle accident involving a car in a ditch. Chief 22 and Command 22 responded and provided an updated location near the county line. Engine 22 and Squad 22 also responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, Chief 22 and Command 22 found a single vehicle that had rolled over into a creek, with two occupants still trapped inside. Following an initial size-up, both patients were confirmed to be confined within the vehicle.
Engine 22’s crew began clearing small trees and branches using saws to improve access to the vehicle and facilitate patient removal to the roadway. The crew then stabilized the vehicle and deployed absorbent booms downstream as a precaution against potential fluid leaks. Using spreaders and cutters, they removed both front doors to extricate the occupants.
Squad 22 arrived shortly after, preparing the Stokes basket and assisting with patient removal. Working together, the crews carefully brought both patients up the steep, rocky embankment—one at a time—to the awaiting EMS teams. Both individuals were placed into EMS care just 24 minutes after the engine’s arrival.
Cambria Station 63 provided traffic control during the extrication process, while PSP and Russell’s Towing handled the investigation and vehicle removal. Once all operations were completed, Command 22 placed the box back in service.
