Holbrook, NY - Rapid suppression efforts by the Holbrook Volunteer Fire Department and neighboring mutual aid agencies prevented an outdoor kitchen fire from extending into a residence along Eatondale Avenue on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Holbrook volunteers were initially dispatched to the Eatondale Avenue property for a reported outside fire. Shortly after activation, emergency communications upgraded the response to an active structure fire based on updated reports indicating flames to the rear of the dwelling.

First-due fire crews arrived to find an outdoor barbecue kitchen installation on the rear patio heavily involved in fire, with flames directly threatening the adjacent residence. Firefighters swiftly stretched a single attack handline into the backyard and initiated an aggressive knockdown.

The rapid deployment successfully contained the blaze to the patio cooking area, extinguishing the fire before it could breach the home's exterior walls or attic eaves, leaving the primary residential structure completely unharmed. Suppression and scene operations were bolstered by automatic mutual aid support from the Bayport Fire Department and the Sayville Fire Department.
