Arkport, NY - A Tuesday morning collision between a passenger car and a motorcycle closed major lanes along State Route 36 and sent an injured motorist on an emergency ground transport to a Rochester trauma center after adverse weather grounded air medical transport.

At approximately 7:29 a.m. on September 22, 2026, Arkport Hose Company 1 was dispatched to the intersection of State Route 36 and Industrial Park Road for a reported motor vehicle accident involving a car and a motorcycle. Chief 202 arrived on scene moments prior to dispatch, immediately confirming patient injuries and noting heavy traffic blockages across Route 36 Northbound and the crossover connecting Industrial Park Road to County Route 65.

First-due personnel initiated patient care and stabilized the scene alongside responding Arkport units Chief 2 and Rescue 38. While emergency responders initially requested an air medical helicopter for rapid evacuation, Air Med assets were grounded due to adverse regional weather conditions.

An ambulance crew from the City of Hornell Fire Department assumed care and executed an emergency ground transport, transferring the injured patient directly to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for specialized trauma treatment.

The collision scene was managed with extensive multi-agency roadway support, including troopers from the New York State Police, deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff's Office, and maintenance crews from the New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT), who assisted with prolonged traffic diversions and roadway clearance.
