Bayonne, N.J. — October 11 — The Bayonne Fire Department responded to a scrap yard fire on East 2nd Street Sunday evening. Due to an east wind, smoke drifted toward the downtown area, prompting precautionary guidance for residents.
Hudson Regional Health Commission monitored air quality at the scene and reported no dangerous levels of particulates. However, as a safety measure, officials advised downtown residents to remain indoors and close windows until conditions improved.
Crews remained on scene into the night to ensure the fire was fully contained and posed no further hazard to nearby neighborhoods.
