Echo Rural Fire Department battles Interstate hay semi truck fire

STANFIELD,OR-Smoke and flames were seen billowing into the air as Echo Rural Fire Department rolled up on the scene along the westbound lanes of Interstate 84, east of Stanfield, on Oct. 15, of a truck and two hay trailers on fire.

It all began around 2 p.m. when a truck pulling two flatbed semi-trailers loaded with hay were westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 194 when the 60 year-old driver started to smell smoke.

The driver stopped about the same time as an Oregon State Trooper pulled up to the scene.

The driver of the rig was not able to detach the truck from the trailers as the fire was spreading.

Oregon Department of Transportation responded to handle traffic control.

The truck and two trailers were significantly damaged.

The cause of the fire has not been released at this time.
