Cuddebackville, NY - An active electrical line fire forced an emergency shutdown of Route 209 during the early morning hours of Monday, September 28, 2026, prompting a multi-agency response to secure the roadway and isolate the electrical hazard.

At approximately 12:57 a.m., the Cuddebackville Fire Department ("Station 10") was dispatched to reports of downed utility wires burning along Route 209. Arriving first on location, Car-3 confirmed energized power lines down on the pavement with active fire, posing severe electrocution and brush exposure risks.

Due to the hazardous high-voltage conditions, incident commanders implemented an immediate, full road closure along the heavily traveled corridor. Fire police and apparatus from the Port Jervis and Westbrookville fire departments established road blocks to divert oncoming traffic away from the energized zone, coordinating perimeter security alongside the New York State Police.

Firefighters maintained a protective perimeter until utility technicians from Orange & Rockland arrived on scene to safely cut the grid feed and de-energize the damaged circuit. Once the live electrical danger was eliminated, crews mitigated remaining surface hazards. A substantial fleet operated on scene, including Cuddebackville Car-1, Car-2, Engine 803, and Squad 811, alongside mutual aid units 52-2, 38-1, 38-828, and 34-61.
