North Yarmouth, ME — October 11 — North Yarmouth Fire Rescue responded to a building fire at 1046 Lewiston Road in New Gloucester during the early morning hours of October 11, 2026.

At 2:09 a.m., Squad 51 and Tanker 53 were sent to assist New Gloucester Fire Rescue at the scene. Tanker 53 helped with water supply operations, while Squad 51 supported the fire attack, salvage, and overhaul efforts.

The fire started at Link’s Variety, a store located on Lewiston Road. New Gloucester firefighters noticed smoke coming from the roofline and advanced a hose line into the building to locate the fire. The situation was upgraded to an all-hands-on-deck response, and additional fire departments from neighboring areas provided help with the firefighting operations.

North Yarmouth’s tanker played a key role in maintaining the water supply needed for fire suppression, while Squad 51 members helped the crews inside the building and during the cleanup process.

Salvage operations were carried out to prevent further damage to the property, and overhaul was conducted to ensure there were no hidden fires or remaining heat sources.

New Gloucester Fire Rescue reported that the fire was put out approximately five hours after the call was made.

No injuries were reported, although the business suffered significant damage and had to be closed after the incident. The cause of the fire is still being investigated by state fire officials.
