PROCTORSVILLE, Vt. — October 8, 2026 — At about 3:06 p.m., firefighters from the Proctorsville Volunteer Fire Department arrived at a residence on Depot Street. Thursday, after the Hartford Dispatch received a report that smoke had filled a home.
The first report suggested that the pellet stove was on fire, emitting black and brown smoke from the unit. It was reportedly unplugged by the time the firefighters arrived.
Engine 2, Engine 1, and seven firefighters arrived at the scene. When crews arrived at the residence, they detected light smoke and noticed it was coming from the pellet stove, though there was no active fire.
Firefighters removed all remaining pellets from the stove and ventilated the home to clear the smoke. Crews also used air-monitoring equipment to check conditions and ensure the air quality had returned to normal.
After completing the investigation and ventilation, all apparatus and personnel returned to the firehouse by 3:40 p.m.
