Deposit, NY- Firefighters from the Deposit Fire Department and neighboring mutual aid agencies prevented serious structural damage Sunday evening, successfully containing an active chimney fire inside a single-family dwelling in the Town of Sanford.
On the evening of October 11, 2026, Deposit personnel and Eastern Broome Emergency Services were dispatched to reports of a flue fire with possible extension into the residence's living areas. First-arriving units quickly confirmed active flames burning within the chimney assembly and established exposure protections to monitor surrounding walls and roof timbers.
Crews from the Deposit Fire Department, supported by responding mutual aid personnel from the Harpursville Fire Department, coordinated an aggressive suppression and inspection effort.
Operating both inside the home and on elevated positions, firefighters attacked the fire, deployed thermal imaging cameras to check for hidden structural spread, and successfully confined all active burning entirely within the flue.
A substantial fleet of apparatus responded to support suppression and water operations on scene, including Deposit Squad 22-1, Squad 22-2, Midi-Pumper 22, and Pumper-Tanker 22, alongside Harpursville Quint 43. No structural loss or injuries were reported, and the property was cleared once crews confirmed all fire extension hazards were fully mitigated.
