Cumberland, ME — September 25 — The Cumberland Fire Department was called to handle a motor vehicle collision that involved injuries and entrapment on northbound Interstate 95, near mile marker 62, at about 5:13 p.m.on September 25, 2026.
Engine 105 arrived first and reported a single-vehicle crash where occupants were stuck inside the vehicle. A working extrication was initiated. Engine 105, Ambulance 104, Heavy Rescue 103, and Gray Fire Rescue Heavy Rescue 47 were all dispatched to help. An additional ambulance from the Falmouth Fire-EMS was also requested to support the operation.
Because the vehicle had sustained significant damage, firefighters used hydraulic tools to remove the roof and doors.
The crew also used hydraulic rams to lift the dashboard away from the trapped individuals, making it possible to safely remove them from the vehicle.
Two people were successfully rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for additional medical treatment. Traffic on northbound I-95 was affected for roughly one hour as emergency crews worked at the scene.
The operation required teamwork among fire, rescue, and ambulance services to complete the extrication and transport the injured individuals.
