Durham, ME— October 10 — Durham Fire and Rescue arrived around 2:15 a.m.to help New Gloucester Fire Rescue at a structure fire on Lewiston Road. Engine 22 and Car 1 were sent to offer mutual-aid support, with Durham firefighters assisting with the overhaul process at the scene.

The overhaul work began after the main fire was controlled. This involved checking areas that had been affected by the fire for any hidden flames or hot spots to ensure the fire did not reoccur. Firefighters had to inspect the damaged materials and confirm that any remaining heat sources had been properly dealt with.

Mutual aid provided New Gloucester Fire Rescue with extra personnel and resources during the incident. Working together with neighboring departments helped support the fire operations and enabled crews to continue their efforts during the later stages of the response.

Structure fires often require ongoing work even after the visible flames have been put out. Overhaul is a critical part of the operation because fire can still burn inside walls, ceilings, stored items, or other hidden spaces.

Durham Fire and Rescue routinely collaborates with nearby agencies during emergency responses. Their involvement in this incident showed how regional cooperation plays a key role in providing fire protection to surrounding communities.

The response also emphasized the importance of teamwork between departments, from the initial attack on the fire to the overhaul process and final inspection of the scene.
