FANWOOD, N.J., Sept. 26, 2025 — At approximately 10:46 p.m., the Fanwood Fire Department (FFD) was dispatched to La Grande Avenue for a reported fire alarm activation with an odor of burning inside a multi-family residence.
FFD units arrived within five minutes and observed smoke showing from a two-story dwelling, prompting the call to be upgraded to a structure fire. Engine 7 and Ladder 1 responded to the scene.
Firefighters quickly located a small pile of burning debris inside the structure and removed it from the building. A single attack line was deployed to cool the affected area, and the fire was brought under control within minutes. Crews ventilated both the affected apartment and neighboring units to clear smoke.
No injuries were reported.
The Fanwood Fire Department credited the home’s working smoke alarms for providing early warning to residents, allowing for a rapid response and minimal damage. Officials reminded the public of the importance of regularly testing and maintaining smoke detectors to ensure they remain in working order.
