FDNY firefighters operated at a three-alarm residential fire that extended into a neighboring dwelling, requiring additional companies to assist with suppression, searches, and exposure protection.
The incident occurred shortly after 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 97-07 34th Avenue in Corona, Queens, New York. Arriving companies encountered fire on the second floor of a two-and-a-half-story residence, with extension into the attic and an adjacent two-family dwelling at 97-09 34th Avenue.
Battalion 46 transmitted the initial working-fire signal, with additional engine and ladder companies assigned as conditions developed. A second alarm was transmitted at approximately 4:21 a.m., followed by a third alarm at 4:48 a.m. Engine, ladder, rescue, squad, and EMS units operated under the command of Deputy Chief Christopher Paolicelli.
Heavy clutter throughout the original fire building complicated interior operations and access to the fire. Additional companies assisted with fire suppression, searches, and operations in the exposure building. The incident brought a total of 63 fire and EMS units and 192 personnel to the scene.
Three firefighters sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals in stable condition. The fire was placed under control at approximately 5:44 a.m.
Following the fire, New York City Department of Buildings inspectors identified significant structural damage and issued vacate orders for both affected properties. At least nine residents were displaced, with the American Red Cross providing emergency assistance. FDNY fire marshals were investigating the cause of the fire.
