The Westfield Fire Department is recognizing Fire Prevention Week by encouraging residents to review and practice home fire safety plans. The department emphasized that preparation and awareness are key to preventing tragedy in the event of an emergency.

Officials shared simple but critical reminders for families:

  1. Know two ways out of every room.
  2. Practice your escape plan regularly.
  3. Designate a safe outdoor meeting spot for everyone in your household.

“Fire won’t wait — plan your escape,” the department reminded residents.

Throughout October, Westfield firefighters are engaging with families, students, seniors, and community groups to promote fire safety awareness and prevention. The department urges everyone to take time this month to ensure that smoke alarms are working, exits are clear, and every member of the household knows what to do in an emergency.
