Gas Line Struck on Chemung Street Prompts Road Closure in Horseheads

Horseheads, N.Y. — October 5, 2026 — Firefighters, police, utility workers, and village crews responded Monday to a reported gas line strike near a construction site on Chemung Street in Horseheads. 

Horseheads Fire/ Rescue Engine 1034 was on scene along with the Horseheads Police Department, New York State Electric & Gas ( NYSEG), Village Department of Public Works, and Village Water. The affected section of Chemung Street was closed between Center Street and Grand Central Avenue while crews worked to address the incident.
