Horseheads Firefighters Respond to More Than 15 Calls in 48 Hours

Horseheads, N.Y. — Early October 2026 — The Horseheads Fire Department handled more than 15 calls for service over a 48-hour period during the first week of October, responding to a range of incidents while preparing for Fire Prevention Week. 


Department members and paid staff responded to fire alarms, odor investigations, motor vehicle accidents, and medical emergencies. During the busy period, crews worked alongside Erway Ambulance, while Chemung County E911 coordinated dispatching and helped manage resources across the area. 


Erway Ambulance provides emergency ambulance and advanced life support services in Chemung County. The county’s E911 Communications Center dispatches calls for the area’s fire departments and other emergency services, helping coordinate responses when multiple incidents require attention.
