Fleischmanns, NY - Volunteer firefighters from multiple departments across the Catskills overcame daunting rural access obstacles and rugged topography late Sunday night to battle a fully involved residential structure fire in Delaware County.
On September 20, 2026, the Fleischmanns Fire Department was dispatched to reports of a working structure fire. First-arriving units encountered severe conditions, finding the residence already fully engulfed in flames.
The home's remote location presented formidable logistical challenges on the fireground. Situated along a long, narrow, unpaved dirt roadway, responders were forced to lay out approximately 500 feet of five-inch large-diameter hose line (LDH) to establish an operational water corridor.
Compounding the access difficulties, responding water tankers had to execute a demanding tactical maneuver, backing down the narrow dirt approach for more than a half-mile directly from Route 28 to feed continuous water supplies into the attack lines.
Fleischmanns received vital mutual aid assistance from neighboring fire companies, including the Arkville, Margaretville, Pine Hill, and Halcottsville fire departments, alongside support from Margaretville Memorial Hospital (MMH) EMS and heavy equipment assistance from Josh Construction.
Thanks to coordinated rural water supply shuttles and aggressive exterior defensive operations, crews successfully contained the blaze. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, and all personnel cleared the scene safely.
