Hughsonville, NY - A two-vehicle collision triggered an electrical hazard response Saturday evening after one of the cars struck and damaged an electric vehicle charging station near a local supermarket in Dutchess County.

At approximately 6:43 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, the Hughsonville Fire Department and Town of Wappinger Ambulance were dispatched to the vicinity of Hannaford Supermarket on Myers Corners Road for a reported motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment.

The first-arriving chief officer found a two-vehicle crash with both drivers already out of their cars, ruling out entrapment. However, one of the vehicles had collided directly with an electric vehicle charging station, raising immediate concerns over exposed high-voltage components.

Firefighters swiftly engaged the emergency shutoff mechanism on the charging unit to halt current flow. To fully eliminate the risk of electrocution or electrical fire, incident command requested Central Hudson utility crews, who completely de-energized the damaged infrastructure by cutting power directly at the roadside utility pole.

Town of Wappinger Ambulance personnel evaluated both motorists on scene for minor injuries. Hughsonville responded to the incident with Chief 45-1, Assistant Chief 45-2, Tanker 45-31, Heavy Rescue 45-55, and Brush 45-62, receiving on-scene assistance from the New York State Police, Central Hudson, Town of Wappinger Ambulance, and the Town of Wappinger Building Department. Engine 45-11, along with a crew of six, remained unavailable during the incident while fulfilling a pre-planned mutual aid standby assignment at the Good Will Fire Department in Orange County.
