Three Injured in Route 17 Rollover; Deposit Crews Later Investigate Smoke Odor

Deposit, N.Y. — October 5, 2026 — Firefighters and EMS providers responded to two separate calls in the Deposit area on Sunday, including a two-vehicle rollover crash that injured three people and a later report of smoke inside a home.
At approximately 6:38 a.m., the Deposit Fire Department and Eastern Broome Emergency Services were dispatched to a crash near mile marker 270 on westbound State Route 17 in the Town of Sanford. One vehicle had rolled over and struck a sign, leaving three occupants injured and trapped inside.
Crews stabilized the vehicle, provided medical aid, and worked to extricate the occupants. Two patients were transported by Eastern Broome Emergency Services, while Hancock Ambulance transported the third. An additional ambulance from Superior Ambulance Service responded but was not needed.
A crew from the Windsor Fire Department assisted at the scene. The responding equipment consisted of Squad 22-1 Rescue 22, Midi-Pumper 22, Utility 22, Ambulance 8422, and Ambulance 8423.
Later that afternoon, at approximately 3:06 p.m., Deposit Fire Department and Eastern Broome Emergency Services crews responded to a possible house fire in the Village of Deposit. The caller stated that a smoke detector had gone off and that there was a smell of smoke inside a single-family home. Crews investigated the residence and determined that the odor was coming from an outside source entering through an open window. No fire inside the home was reported. Responding apparatus for the second call included Squad 22-1, Rescue 22, and Ambulance 8423.
