Middleburg, PA — September 22 — The Penns Creek Fire Department received a call about a fire in a silo located in the 500 block of Hauck Lane in Limestone Township at around 4:44 p.m. They dispatched Engine 110 and Tanker 110 to help with the firefighting efforts.

Upon arrival, Tanker 110 set up a portable dump tank to assist with the water supply. The crew then provided water to Company 4 as firefighters worked at the scene. Meanwhile, Engine 110 remained on standby and helped set up the fill site needed to support the water delivery process.

Several fire units from Snyder and Union counties also joined the response. A total of 10 volunteers from Company 100 were involved in the incident.

Firefighters were at the scene for about an hour before the operation was completed and they returned to service. The incident report did not provide further details regarding the cause of the fire, any damage, or injuries.

Silo fires can be challenging for firefighters due to limited access and the nature of the materials stored inside, which can influence how fires behave. Having a reliable water supply and good coordination among responding teams is crucial in handling such incidents.

Portable dump tanks enable tanker trucks to transfer water into a temporary storage tank, which can then be used by fire engines or other equipment.

This setup helps maintain water availability in areas without access to a hydrant system. The U.S.Fire Administration has emphasized the importance of safe tanker and dump-site operations in rural firefighting.

The response demonstrated the significance of regional mutual aid and coordinated water supply efforts during rural fire incidents.
