Baltic, September 26 — CT: Following an alarm activation, Baltic Fire Engine Co. #1 was sent to a smoke/odor investigation at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Friday. A multi-apartment building's "Smoke/Odor with active alarm" was the subject of the call. Three firefighters were on board Car 24 and ET-124 when they arrived. Car 95 was waiting for them when they arrived, and it had already gone inside. According to Car 95, its officer kicked in the door of the unit in question to gain entry and took out a burning bucket.
Firefighters Johnson and Genest then entered the apartment, used a pressurized water can to extinguish the small fire, and proceeded to search the interior for signs of fire extension. Their search revealed no further fire spread and no additional damage. The unit where the fire occurred was unoccupied and under renovation at the time. Smoke had migrated to nearby apartments, producing light to moderate smoke conditions. Crews ventilated four adjacent units to clear the smoke and improve conditions. Units remained on scene for approximately two hours before clearing. No injuries were reported. The Fire Marshal was not available at the time of the incident, so the cause is pending further review and investigation.
