Naugatuck, CT - The Naugatuck Fire Department’s C Shift conducted a hands-on demonstration of basic rope rescue techniques for the Introduction to Firefighting class at Naugatuck High School.
During the session, students practiced knot tying and operated simple hauling and lowering systems commonly used to rescue injured individuals on steep terrain.
The Introduction to Firefighting course is designed to expose students to the skills required in the fire service and guide them through the steps of pursuing a firefighting career. The program combines classroom instruction with practical simulations similar to those found in fire academies, covering topics such as fire behavior, building construction, hose line deployment, forcible entry, and rescue operations.
Students receive instruction from certified fire instructors, Naugatuck firefighters, and guest speakers from local and state public safety agencies. This marks the second year Naugatuck High School has offered the program.
