Guilford, CT - On Monday, October 6, 2025, at approximately 8:09 p.m., the Guilford Fire Department’s 911Telecommunications Center received a report from a Guilford Police Department officer about a brush fire in front of 1575 Boston Post Road. Almost simultaneously, multiple additional 911 calls were received reporting the same incident and indicating that flames were spreading toward a nearby commercial building.
Upon arrival, Guilford Fire Department crews found an area of brush approximately 15 by 50 feet burning. Embers from the fire were being carried onto the roof of an adjacent commercial structure. Firefighters quickly deployed two hose lines to extinguish the brush fire and protect the building by wetting down the roof area.
Due to the rapid and coordinated response of the crews, the fire was contained within eight minutes of their arrival, preventing it from spreading to the commercial building.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Madison Fire Department, the North Madison Fire Department, and the Branford Fire Department. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
An investigation determined that the fire was caused by an improperly discarded cigarette.
The Guilford Fire Department urges all residents and visitors to exercise caution when disposing of smoking materials. Cigarettes should always be fully extinguished and placed in appropriate, non-combustible containers to help prevent accidental fires.
