Jefferson Hills, PA - Volunteer firefighters and emergency personnel from Jefferson Hills Fire-Rescue responded to a residential area on Stettler Drive on Sunday, deploying multiple apparatus to thoroughly investigate a concerning burning odor detected inside a basement.
On October 4, 2026, emergency dispatchers alerted Jefferson Hills Fire-Rescue to the 300 block of Stettler Drive in Allegheny County after a homeowner reported an unusual, sharp odor emanating from the lower level of the residence.
First-arriving units quickly took proactive tactical measures to prepare for a potential working structure fire. The Rescue arrived on location and took over first-due engine company responsibilities, securing a primary water supply and advancing an attack handline toward the structure. Shortly thereafter, Engine 2 pulled up to assume second-due engine company duties, providing logistical backup and supporting supply operations.
Interior crews entered the dwelling to track down the reported odor, which was identified by occupants as resembling burning plastic. Firefighters executed a comprehensive sweep of the basement and all living floors, monitoring atmospheric readings, inspecting electrical fixtures, and using thermal equipment to ensure there was no concealed combustion.
Following the thorough investigation, responders confirmed that no active smoke or fire was present in the structure, permitting all units to safely pick up their lines and return to service.
