— September 17, 2026 — Shortly after midnight, fire, EMS, law enforcement, and transportation agencies responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a Greyhound bus and a tractor-trailer on westbound Interstate 90 near the Route 20 interchange.
Crescent Hose Company and Fuller Hose Company were among the initial fire departments sent to the scene. First Assistant Chief 201 set up incident command, while 2nd Assistant Chief 211 managed triage and Rescue Chief 210 led the rescue efforts.
When Engine 204 and Rescue 208 arrived, they found two people still trapped inside the bus due to their injuries. Firefighters from Crescent and Fuller collaborated to evacuate the patients. Ambulance 217 started assessing patients as its crew encountered many individuals involved in the crash.
Over 30 individuals were assessed at the scene. The Crescent Hose Company stated that seven patients were eventually taken to local hospitals. Later, the Pennsylvania State Police and several news outlets reported that nine individuals, including the bus driver, were taken to UPMC Hamot and AHN Saint Vincent. The discrepancy seems to stem from revised or varying transport numbers, and the official state police figure is applied here for the final hospitalization tally.
The Greyhound had a driver and 36 passengers aboard and was en route from Buffalo to Cleveland. The tractor-trailer was loaded with pallets of ready-to-eat meals. The crash sent thousands of packaged meals flying across the interstate and shut down both westbound lanes for several hours.
Additional fire and EMS resources included EmergyCare, East Erie County EMS, Fairfield Hose Company, Brookside Fire Company, Kuhl Hose Fire Department, Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Company and Ripley Hose Company No. 1 in New York. Pennsylvania State Police, PennDOT, the New York State Department of Transportation, the North East School District, Czarnecki Towing Services, Erie County Department of Public Safety, local emergency management and other support agencies also assisted.
