Chlorine Leak At Reading High School

Reading, PA - On the afternoon of October 1st, Reading Engine 9 and Tower 1 were dispatched to the Reading High School for a fire alarm activation. Engine 9 and Chief Rehr (Car 8) arrived and were told by maintenance personnel that there was an active chlorine leak in the building. Car 8 advised that there were no students in the building and requested the box alarm for additional help. Crews entered the building and located a severed pipe and worked to shut down the source. A decon station was established to wash down the interior crew, while firefighters ventilated the building. Units remained on scene for more than an hour to clear the atmosphere. No injuries were reported.
