Clearfield, PA - A severe motor vehicle collision involving entrapment and an active fire prompted a major emergency response along Interstate 80 on Thursday evening, forcing a complete shutdown of the eastbound lanes and requiring regional coverage shifts.

During the evening of September 17, 2026, Clearfield Fire Department's Engine 1 was dispatched to assist Company 5 with a high-priority crash on Interstate 80 East in the vicinity of mile marker 116. Arriving units encountered a critical scene with an active vehicle fire and an occupant trapped inside the wreckage.

Engine 1's crew integrated immediately into fireground and rescue operations, establishing and supporting the water supply needed to knock down the flames while providing essential personnel to aid in rescue and scene control tasks.

Following their work on the interstate, Engine 1 was released from the active crash site to return to quarters, assuming district stand-by coverage for both Company 5 and Company 6 to safeguard local coverage while primary crews remained engaged on the highway.
