Londonderry Township, Pa. — September 28, 2026 — On Monday evening, a mutual-aid training session unexpectedly became two emergency calls: one involving a car crash caused by a fallen tree and another triggered by a smoke detector in Middletown.
Londonderry Fire Company responded to Swatara Creek Road for a reported accident involving no injuries, following a tree falling onto the road and being hit by a vehicle.
Engine 54, Duty Officer 54, and Company 54 fire police all responded. Firefighters took the tree and debris off the road and eliminated the danger.
As the incident was being managed, Engine 54 departed the scene to help the Middletown Fire Department respond to a smoke-detector alarm on Ann Street in the borough. Chief 88 arrived at the Ann Street location and found burnt food rather than an active fire. The assignment was then held to Company 88, according to the Londonderry Fire Company report.
No injuries were reported in either call.
