Wyoming, N.Y. — October 1 — Wyoming Hook & Ladder Co. Inc. offered mutual aid to the Bethany Fire Department during a second-alarm barn fire that occurred on October 1. Firefighters from Wyoming Hook & Ladder Co. Inc. supported the operation for nearly six hours.

The emergency call was received around 2:26 p.m. for a fully engulfed barn fire in the Bethany area. Initially, Tanker 1 was dispatched to assist with providing water supply. As the situation developed, Tanker 3 was also deployed, along with more tankers from other fire departments in the region.

Engine 5 and Squad 10, which is the department’s auxiliary unit, also answered the call. Four members of the auxiliary team helped with providing refreshments and assisting with scene management while the main firefighting team stayed focused on the incident.

In total, eight firefighters from Wyoming Hook & Ladder Co. Inc. and four auxiliary members took part in the response. The tanker units helped supply additional water resources during the large fire operation, while the auxiliary crew offered support to personnel on site.

The Bethany Fire Department has previously collaborated with nearby agencies during major incidents that required mutual aid. Regional emergency communication plans also included Bethany as one of the departments working with responders from Wyoming and Genesee County.

This response demonstrated the important role that volunteer fire departments play in providing equipment, staffing, and logistical support during long and complex mutual-aid incidents.
