September 29, Wilton, Maine — Coordination and teamwork were put to the test during a hectic Monday afternoon for Wilton Fire & Rescue as crews responded to two separate emergencies: a structure fire on Birch Street and a car accident on Route 133. Early in the afternoon, dispatch received a report of a car versus tree crash with airbag deployment and unknown injuries. Chief Sonny Dunham responded immediately, with Engine One staffed by Captain Cody Henry and Firefighter Colby Chase arriving shortly after. Crews stabilized the vehicle and secured its power source.
Wilton Fire was called to a reported structure fire on Birch Street while the crash scene was being worked on. The team proceeded to the second incident after promptly handing over the crash scene to Wilton Police. When they arrived, they noticed smoke emanating from the house's eaves. Arriving with a mix of Wilton staff and mutual aid partners from nearby departments were Engine One, Tanker One, and Squad One. Interior workers discovered that the kitchen was the source of the fire, which had started to spread to the attic and walls. Before the fire could spread to other areas of the house, it was put out by the coordinated attack. Neither incident resulted in any reported transporting injuries. Wilton Fire & Rescue expressed gratitude to all mutual aid partners—including Farmington Fire, Jay Fire, East Dixfield Fire, Wilton Police, and Maine Health EMS—for their support.
