NORFOLK, Conn. —5th Oct: The Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department joined with the Winsted Fire Department on Sunday n showing off the new breathing gear funded by a federal grant. The display marks a step forward in firefighter safety and readiness. The two departments were able to buy lifesaving equipment without putting a strain on local taxpayers thanks to a $534,904.67 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) that they received from FEMA. In order to improve safety under pressure, Norfolk Volunteers will be equipped with 18 lighter SCBA units, 18 spare air bottles, one Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) pack, and accountability software. Older SCBAs are replaced by the more recent models, which are also more portable on the fireground.
