Portage, PA - Volunteer firefighters deployed multiple attack lines, executed elevated ventilation, and navigated structural stability risks Tuesday afternoon, successfully bringing a working garage fire under control and salvaging a muscle car stored inside the building.
Just after 12:00 p.m. on September 22, 2026, emergency dispatchers transmitted Box 86-3, summoning the Blue Knob Volunteer Fire Company alongside neighboring mutual aid departments to a reported structural blaze involving a garage in Juniata Township. Engine/Tanker 86 and Attack 86 responded to the scene staffed by seven volunteer personnel.
Upon arrival, fire crews initiated an aggressive suppression assault, advancing two attack hose lines to battle the active flames while simultaneously throwing ground ladders to access and ventilate the roof and upper spaces of the structure. High-heat conditions and rapid fire degradation raised immediate safety concerns regarding the building's integrity, prompting incident command to temporarily evacuate all interior operating personnel to assess the structural stability of the framework.
Once deemed manageable from a defensive-offensive operational standpoint, suppression teams knocked down the remaining seat of the blaze and pivoted toward heavy salvage operations, focusing efforts on successfully protecting and retrieving a valuable muscle car parked inside the smoke-filled bay.
Department leadership extended gratitude to all assisting mutual aid companies for their coordinated teamwork on the fireground. The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal was requested to the scene and is investigating the cause and origin of the blaze.
