Boalsburg, PA - Firefighters and rescue specialists executed a coordinated hydraulic extrication operation on the Mount Nittany Expressway early Wednesday afternoon, successfully freeing two occupants trapped inside a heavily damaged sedan following a multi-vehicle collision.
At 12:20 p.m. on September 9, 2026, emergency dispatchers transmitted Box 322, alerting the Boalsburg Fire Company to the 5700 block of the Mount Nittany Expressway in Harris Township for a motor vehicle accident with reported injuries. As Chief 3 (Winter) was en route, updated situational reports indicated individuals were unable to exit their vehicle, prompting dispatchers to upgrade the assignment to an entrapment rescue.
Chief 3 arrived first on location, established command, and confirmed a two-vehicle collision involving a passenger sedan disabled in the active roadway and a pickup truck resting off the travel lanes. The driver of the pickup truck had safely self-extricated prior to arrival, but two patients remained confined inside the compromised passenger compartment of the sedan.
Rescue 3, Engine/Rescue 3, and Traffic 3 responded to the scene. Firefighters quickly stabilized the wreckage to prevent shifting before deploying hydraulic rescue tools to shear and peel back the sedan’s driver-side door. Once access was secured, emergency personnel assisted medical crews with patient packaging and continuous care.
