Gettysburg Firefighters Rescued Driver From Overturned Pickup

Gettysburg, PA. — September 21 — Gettysburg Fire Department and Adams Regional EMS responded to a single-vehicle crash involving an overturned pickup truck around 3:30 p.m.at the 3100 block of York Road.


Deputy Chief 1 arrived on scene and found the pickup truck off the roadway, overturned onto its driver’s side and resting against a tree.

The vehicle had only one occupant who was trapped, leading to an upgrade of the incident to a motor vehicle collision with entrapment.Additional resources from United Hook & Ladder Co.33 were deployed to assist.


Rescue crews set up a tie-back stabilization system before removing the roof of the vehicle.

Firefighters assessed the situation and determined that the patient’s left arm and elbow were trapped beneath the driver’s door. Hydraulic rescue tools were used to lift the door and free the patient. EMS personnel provided advanced medical care before the patient was carefully removed using spinal precautions to ensure safety.


STAT MedEvac 13 was initially called to provide aeromedical transport, but the helicopter was unable to proceed due to mechanical issues. As a result, the patient was transported by ground ambulance to York Hospital.


Pennsylvania State Police and fire police helped manage traffic control during the operation. Gettysburg Fire’s Deputy Chief 1 was in command of York Road during the incident.
