Sept. 27, 2025 — Just before noon on Saturday, Gorham Fire and EMS was dispatched to a motor vehicle fire approximately 4.5 miles up the Mt. Washington Auto Road in Greens Grant.
Bystanders attempted to extinguish the flames with fire extinguishers, but the vehicle was fully involved by the time fire crews arrived. Firefighters quickly went to work, knocking down the blaze and preventing it from spreading into the wooded area nearby.
Crews remained on scene until the vehicle was secured and loaded onto a flatbed. The Auto Road was closed briefly during the initial suppression, but reopened shortly afterward.
No injuries were reported, and Gorham Fire units returned to service about three hours later. The department also extended thanks to Gorham Public Works, who assisted with a flat tire on Engine 4 after the call.
Captain Sanschagrin of Gorham Fire & EMS noted the quick teamwork that prevented a challenging roadside fire from becoming something larger.
