Bellwood, PA - Firefighters from multiple regional departments mounted an extensive defensive fireground operation early Wednesday morning after an intense fire consumed and collapsed a large commercial workshop on Windy Acres Lane.

At 12:40 a.m. on September 9, 2026, Blair County 911 began receiving multiple emergency calls reporting a building ablaze. Dispatchers immediately transmitted the commercial building fire assignment, alerting Sinking Valley Volunteer Fire Company (Station 24) and mutual aid partners from Excelsior Fire Department No. 1 of Bellwood (Station 22). Excelsior turned out in force, deploying Engine 22, Quint 22, Tanker 22, and Squad 22 to the scene.

Sinking Valley Engine 24 arrived first on location to find a large commercial Amish workshop already fully engulfed in flames, with structural components beginning to fail and collapse inward. Recognizing the severe fire volume and the compromise of the building's integrity, incident commanders ordered an immediate defensive posture, focusing heavy master streams and exterior hoselines on knocking down the main body of fire while establishing protection lines to shield surrounding exposures.

Due to the remote location, commanders called for a heavy tanker shuttle to continuously draft and haul water to the fireground to sustain high-volume exterior flows. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down, an excavator was brought in to systematically tear through the collapsed framing and metal roofing, allowing ground crews to access and douse deeply seated hot spots and hidden embers trapped within the debris pile.

Crews operated on the fireground for several hours into the early morning before completing overhaul operations, and all responding personnel returned to quarters safely with no reported injuries.
