Sept. 30, 2025 — At 2:31 a.m., Fitchburg Fire Department Group 4 companies were dispatched to the West Street area following reports of a building fire.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire showing from the front of the structure, prompting a second alarm. Firefighters quickly deployed attack lines, established a water supply, and launched suppression operations. Thanks to their coordinated response, the bulk of the fire was brought under control swiftly, though extensive overhaul operations continued for several hours.

While no injuries were reported, the blaze displaced 15 residents, who are now receiving assistance from the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials expressed gratitude to neighboring communities that provided mutual aid, both at the scene and by covering the city during the incident.

“This was a challenging fire, but thanks to the quick actions of our crews and the support of our mutual aid partners, we were able to prevent further damage and ensure everyone’s safety,” the department stated.
