Sept. 25, 2025 — The Holden Fire Department has announced that the Town of Holden has been awarded a FEMA Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant totaling $675,703.

The grant will allow the department to hire two additional Firefighter/EMTs, strengthening operations and expanding the department’s ability to provide a higher level of service to Holden residents.

Fire officials expressed gratitude to Town Manager Lukes, the Board of Selectmen, and Senators Edward Markey and Elizabeth Warren for their continued support in securing the funding.

“This award enhances our operational capacity and ensures we can continue to meet the needs of the community we are sworn to protect,” the department said in a statement.

The SAFER grant program, administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is designed to help fire departments nationwide increase staffing levels to improve public and firefighter safety.
