Sept. 21, 2025 — At 6:25 p.m. Sunday, the Arkport Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire just outside the village in the Town of Hornellsville.
The call came after a resident’s newly installed Ring camera detected what appeared to be fire activity. Engine 69, Car 2, and Car 202 responded, along with automatic mutual aid from North Hornell Volunteer Fire Department (Engine 15 and Car 27). The City of Hornell Fire Department also sent an ambulance.
Upon arrival, crews declared “nothing showing” and began investigating. After speaking with the family, it was determined that the alert was caused by sun glare and heat notifications from the Ring doorbell, rather than an actual fire.
All units were returned to service, with the situation found to be unfounded.
