Sept. 23, 2025 — The Arkport Fire Department focused its most recent drill on foam operations, practicing water supply, pump operations, and nozzle techniques.
Firefighters reviewed two different foam application methods, each provided by a separate engine. Engine 69 demonstrated a traditional foam application using an aeration adapter on the nozzle, which mixes water with foam concentrate to create a standard foamy solution. In contrast, Engine 43 features a Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS), which combines water, foam chemical, and compressed air to produce a mixture resembling shaving cream when applied.
The drill also included water supply practice using the station standpipe. In one scenario, crews supplied water directly from the standpipe into Engine 43, which then fed Engine 69, instead of using a portable pond.
By training with both systems, members strengthened their understanding of foam firefighting options, ensuring they are prepared to adapt to different incident needs.
