Sept. 17, 2025 — Members of Liberty Fire & Rescue dedicated last night’s drill to refreshing their knowledge of pump operations on department apparatus.

Pump training is a vital skill for firefighters, as operating equipment efficiently under pressure can make the difference between success and chaos on a fireground. Crews were reminded how easily “tunnel vision” can set in during an emergency, leading to hesitation or mistakes if repetition and practice are lacking.

“The more we train, the more effective we become,” officers emphasized. “Having state-of-the-art equipment is useless if we lack the knowledge to operate it effectively.”

Consistent, hands-on training ensures that firefighters remain sharp and confident when it matters most, keeping both their team and the community safe.
