A fire did heavy damage to an occupied two story single family home during a Nor'easter on Sunday September 27, 2026 and drew mutual aid to the scene from two states.

With the remnants of a powerful early season Nor'easter still lashing the Southern New England region, at 2;45 p.m. Westcomm PSD alerted East Longmeadow and Longmeadow Fire crews on automatic aid to possible structure fire at 21 Breezy Knoll road in East Longmeadow. ELFD members arriving on scene 5 minutes later confirmed a working structure fire in an occupied two story ranch style dwelling with smoke and fire showing from the Delta side of the home. Longmeadow Ladder 1, a quint, arrived next and secured a water supply with mutual aid from Wilbraham, MA and Enfield and Somers, CT arriving next.

Crews advanced hand lines into the Alpha side to cut off the fires lateral spread while also attacking the main body of fire on Delta side. The bulk of the fire was knocked down within 20 minutes but while crews were transitioning to salvage and overhaul operations, the next band of rain from the storm rolled through the area causing a downpour that made conditions on scene a soaking wet, muddy mess. No human injuries were reported but several pets had to be rescued from the fire building. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the ELFD and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
