Clinton, CT - Members of the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department took advantage of the last stretch of decent weather to continue their marine training regimen with exercises on Cedar Island. Due to its limited water supply, restricted access, and potential for rapid fire spread, Cedar Island is regarded as a target hazard for the department.
With the arrival of a new boat, crews are now able to deliver higher volumes of water at greater pressure onto the island—capabilities that were not possible with the older vessel. During the exercise, members stretched several hundred feet of hose and operated both a master stream and a handline to evaluate pump performance and assess the volume and reach achievable.
The training also included collaboration with island residents, who practiced deploying hose and initiating fire suppression and containment using hose houses that have been strategically positioned throughout the island.
