Millvale, PA - An overnight vehicle fire prompted a multi-company emergency response along the Route 28 corridor early Thursday morning, drawing apparatus from several neighboring communities to Etna Borough.

Shortly before 1:00 a.m. on September 10, 2026, emergency dispatchers alerted regional fire companies to an active vehicle fire burning along Route 28 Southbound in Etna. The Millvale Volunteer Fire Department responded with its Rescue Engine to assist on the highway assignment.

Operating alongside mutual aid companies from Station 149 (Etna VFD), Station 260 (Cherry City VFC), and Station 102 (Aspinwall VFD), arriving crews encountered a vehicle ablaze along the shoulder of the expressway. Firefighters stretched an attack line to quickly knock down the heavy fire within the vehicle, cooling the fuel tank and engine compartment to prevent runoff hazards across active travel lanes.

First responders secured the highway perimeter, handled minor fluid containment, and assisted with traffic control until towing personnel could safely load and remove the burned vehicle, fully reopening the southbound lanes to traffic.
